Although cherry angiomas are harmless and don't require treatment, some patients choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons.

What Are Cherry Angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are small collections of blood vessels that develop near the surface of the skin.

They can be flat or slightly raised and may range from a tiny pinpoint to several millimeters in size. They commonly occur on the torso, arms, shoulders, and other areas of the body.

Cherry angiomas are benign and are not a form of skin cancer.

However, any new, changing, bleeding, or unusual skin growth should be properly evaluated before cosmetic treatment.

How Does Excel V+ Treat Cherry Angiomas?

Excel V+ uses laser energy at wavelengths that target hemoglobin, the pigment within blood.

The cherry angioma absorbs the laser energy, which heats and damages the unwanted blood vessels while minimizing injury to the surrounding skin.

Following treatment, the angioma may initially darken before gradually fading as the body clears the treated vessels.

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

Cherry angiomas can usually be treated quickly.

The Excel V+ handpiece is placed over the lesion and a pulse of laser energy is delivered directly to the targeted blood vessels.

You may feel a brief sensation similar to a light snap or heat against the skin. Excel V+ incorporates cooling technology to help protect the surrounding skin and improve comfort during treatment.

When multiple cherry angiomas are being treated, each lesion is treated individually.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Many small cherry angiomas respond well to a single treatment.

Larger or thicker lesions may require additional treatment to achieve the desired improvement.

The number of treatments needed will depend on the size, depth, color, and number of cherry angiomas being treated.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

The treated cherry angioma may temporarily appear darker, redder, or slightly swollen following treatment.

A small crust or scab may develop as the area heals. It is important to allow this to come off naturally rather than picking at the treated area.

Temporary redness and tenderness may also occur.

You will receive specific aftercare instructions following your treatment.

Will Cherry Angiomas Come Back?

A successfully treated cherry angioma may resolve permanently, but treatment does not prevent new cherry angiomas from developing elsewhere.

Because people tend to develop more cherry angiomas with age, additional spots may appear over time and can be treated if desired.

How Much Does Cherry Angioma Treatment Cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the number and size of cherry angiomas being treated and whether additional treatment sessions are needed.
